Diving into Metrics to understand performance

I am a new user - less than 3 months, diving into metrics to determine productivity, success and error rates, as well as customer service metrics.  I am having troubles with pulling information on time to process an order, changes made after saving, etc.  Is there a training module out there that will help with the Quick Query application?  Searching, but am going through SL Guides to attempt to learn., which take a fair amount of time.

    Todd,

It sounds as if you want to use Quick Queries with information from Order Management to track performance.

Here is a link to a useful article on deploying a custom query for use with Quick Query:

    congruentdynamics.blogspot.com/2013/03/custom-quick-queries-in-dynamics-sl-2011.html

To understand data structure, the SL 2011 Report Assistants are helpful because they show screen shots along with the actual database table and column names.  They may still be available through CustomerSource.

Also in CustomerSource you can get the SL 2015 Order Management training manual which in my opinion is more valuable then the SL Guides.  They do a better job explaining how Dynamics SL works.

Budget permitting, you might find that applications like CRM and Power BI offer more functionality to address your business issues.

Finally, if you'd like professional assistance, our Velosio office in Grand Rapids can help.

Good luck with your initiative to improve performance.

If you search the file libraries here on DSLUG you'll find a fair amount of content from prior conferences on Quick Query which will still be relevant.  Lots of PowerPoints and instruction to modify existing and create your own QQ's.  While the manuals are long (and dry!) they do provide the bulk of documentation available from Microsoft.  As a new user, you should really consider attending our conference in April.  I'm confident you'll find it valuable!

    Hello Todd,

There is a user guide specific to Quick Query - it is very thorough and a quick read.  It covers everything you can do with Quick Query itself.

I'd also recommend searching for the Report Assistants for Dynamics SL.  These help you to identify the tables/fields for the various data elements and can save a bunch of time as you modify queries and reports.  If you cannot find these, you may email me at cindy@synergybusiness.com, likely I have them stored locally.

Best of luck with your new role!
