We are trying to set up our developer's virtual machine (VM) in preparation for our go-live on Dynamics SL V2018 CU2.

According to the  SDK documentation, in order to install the SDK, you must have previously installed Visual Studio 2012, 2013, or 2015 with Visual Basic components.   We don't actually have a license for that  product because we have  always had an Enterprise Agreement, and according to our IT team, they can't give us the old version under the EA and advised us to buy one.

We've been trying to buy a copy of Visual Studio 2015, and we simply can't find it.      The link provided by Microsoft Tech Support did a "Bait and Switch" - which is to say they advertise the version, but when you try to buy it, they give you a "free" upgrade to Visual Studio 2019 which we don't believe works.

Can anyone tell us how to obtain a copy of  Visual Studio 2012, 2013, or 2015 with a new license (not an upgrade), and a link where we can buy it?   What is the SKU of what we need to buy?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

    Best regards,

You should be able to use Visual Studio Community 2013 or 2015.  It's free to download, as long as you have a valid Microsoft account.

    https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/vs/older-downloads/

To download any product from the following list, click the download button and log in with your Visual Studio Subscription account when prompted. If you don't have a Visual Studio Subscription, you can create one for free by clicking on "Create a new Microsoft account" on the login page.

As noted by Mark, use the community edition (free).  You can also use VS2017.  I think you will also find the links below helpful.  Community edition is considered Pro when following the steps.

As noted in one of the articles, Code Inspector no longer works since it is a VS add-in.  Strange that SL team has not revised their SDK documentation or implemented a workaround.

    Hi Gail,
I have created a project template for Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 (that works with RTM, CU1, and CU2) for Visual Studio 2019. It is available in the Visual Studio Marketplace. Here's a link to a post that describes it in a little more detail. The instructions from Solomon Cloud Solutions and my post about VS 2017 don't work with VS 2019. If your developers try it out, I'd be interested in their feedback.
