Mapping field from GLTran to post through to PJTran

    Hi Folks - cross posting this from another SL forum as well to see what types of input folks might have:

    We have a situation where we would like to map a field from the Journal Transaction entry screen (w/ regular batch module type = GL) so that it updates to PJtran when the transaction is posted. The field in question is gltran.ExtRefNbr (used from the aptran side posting more traditionally).

    We have certain transactions entered through GL journal entries that it would be nice to carry forward this field w/ the posting and keep it tagged to the transaction.

    Anyone done this before or any thoughts in relation?

    Many thanks,
    Justin

    Because the Financial Transaction Transfer process uses client-side code, accomplishing this would require writing some custom process or trigger. If this is a reporting need, why not just join the PJTran table to the GLTran table in the relevant reports?

    SELECT p.*, g.ExtRefNbr
    FROM dbo.PJTRAN AS p JOIN dbo.GLTran AS g ON p.tr_id04 = g.BatNbr AND p.voucher_line = g.LineNbr
    WHERE p.batch_type = 'GJ' AND g.Module = 'GL';

    If the PJTran table has scads of rows, you might want to create an additional index on it.

    The original designers of Solomon built in a native functionality to automatically transfer gltran.user1, gltran.user2,...user4 to project controller and flex billings corresponding user1.... user4 when populated.  No customization is needed.  We use the user1 field in AP voucher entry and GLtran for flexible billings invoicing.

    Jonathan & Jenny - thank you both for the responses, super helpful.

    I've heard a trigger may be able to help accomplish this task, something we'll look into for sure. If anyone has experience doing this in SL, I'd be very interested in hearing how it turned out.

    Tying the trans back to GLTran for the additional mapping via joins is also an option, though we were hopeful to get the value to flow with the transaction from GLTran > PJTran > Flex Billings so we could track to the final invoice destination.

    On the point about user1, user2 etc. - we've used these fields already (unfortunately!) so that would likely require a bit of effort to re-purpose - though certainly an option.
